Nothing says "Merry Christmas" like a purple Christmas tree - or does it?
While walking in the mall recently I saw a PURPLE Christmas tree and it struck me how this symbolizes what Christmas is all about for many people. The glitz and glitter, the sparkly, sanitized, artificial version of the Babe lying in a manger, Who came for no other reason than that we might give and get presents, spend extra time with family and friends, and eat cookies shaped like trees, stars and angels. I am not against artificial trees, we have one, but what saddens me is when the story of the birth of the Savior of mankind is hijacked, corrupted and minimized to the point where Jesus carries little more weight at Christmas time than Santa and his reindeer or Frosty, the snowman. As we approach Christmas, it is such a joy to hear sermons about Who the Savior is, His attributes, and of His plan of redemption.
